Wellington Friends Centre

Wellington's Friends Centre, situated opposite the Meeting House, is within easy walking distance of Courtenay Place with its many eating places and other downtown destinations. The Centre serves as the home for our Resident Friends and offers accomodation for travelling Friends and attenders. Regular Meetings for Worship are held on Sunday at 10:30am and Wednesday at 12:15pm.

Guest Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in one twin-bedded and one twin + one rooms. There is a shared use bathroom, toilet and shower. All bed linen, towels and soap are provided. There is a radio in each room. There are facilities for making tea and coffee together with a refrigerator. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar are provided.

A continental style breakfast is served "en famillie". Breakfast is provided between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. at the guest's request. Smoking is not permitted in the Centre. Guests are asked not to bring alcohol onto the premises. There is limited off-street car parking for guests. We regret there are no facilities for guest's private laundry. There is a launderette nearby in Elizabeth St.

  • Family 2 adults + 2 children $60
  • Single person requiring sole occupancy $40
  • Annexe (only available when Friends Centre accommodation is full) $15
  • Continental breakfast $7

Transport from the Airport

There are convenient shuttle/minibus taxis available for approximately $16.00 for one person (2003 price) and a half-hourly expess airport bus called The Flyer (orange with purple writing) for $4.00 (2003 price), which stops at Courtenay Place, a five minute walk from the Centre. If asked the driver may, but is not obliged to, drop you off by the pedestrian crossing in Elizabeth Street, just short of Kent Terrace. Moncrieff Street is by the crossing. Taxis are also available for approximately $20.00.

Parking

There is limited parking for guests arriving by car.

Resident Friends

The Friends Centre and other Meeting premises are looked after by Resident Friends. In recent years these have been Friends from overseas, from the UK, Canada and the USA, although we are open to Friends from any country, including New Zealand. If you are interested in this voluntary, one-year service, please write to the Friends Centre for further details.
